In this itinerary we try to give the visitor a look at the most important monuments in the city which cannot be missed by those who come to Toledo for the first time, such as:<\/p>\n

– The Cathedral<\/strong>, seat of the Archbishop Primate of Spain and one of the richest churches of Christianity. Here, artistic treasures and works of art of some of the most celebrated artists in history are preserved: El Greco, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Van Dyck, Goya, Vel\u00e1zquez, Berruguete, as well as works such as the spectacular Custodia de Corpus Christi or El Transparente.<\/em><\/p>\n

– The “Burial of the Count of Orgaz”<\/strong>, the masterpiece by El Greco, which can be seen at the Church of Santo Tom\u00e9.<\/p>\n

– The Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca<\/strong>, one of the only two medieval synagogues still in existence in the city.<\/p>\n

– The Franciscan Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes<\/strong>, commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs at the end of the 15th century as their mausoleum.<\/p>\n

Toledo and the three cultures<\/h2>\n

The city is known worldwide for being a place of peaceful coexistence for some 600 years during medieval times. One of the most interesting routes to take in Toledo is the one that brings us closer to these three religions and the mark they have left:<\/p>\n

– The Mosque of the Christ of Light<\/strong>. A mosque from the 10th century which has survived to this day, as it was converted into a church after the city was reconquered in 1085.<\/p>\n

– The Church of San Rom\u00e1n<\/strong>, currently the headquarters of the Museum of the Councils and Visigothic Culture, is an example of the importance of the Catholic Church in Spain, of which Toledo is the Primatial see. Perhaps one of the most beautiful mud\u00e9jar style churches of the city.<\/p>\n

– The Synagogue of El Tr\u00e1nsito and Sephardic Museum<\/strong>. An ideal place to commemorate the passage and legacy of the Sephardic Jewish community, and one of the most spectacular monuments that can be visited in the Old Town.<\/p>\n

Toledo and El Greco<\/h2>\n

El Greco is the most important artist who has come through Toledo and his heritage in the city is priceless. A tour of his paintings will allow us to discover his art and style as well as the monuments in which his works are exhibited.
\n– The Monastery of Santo Domingo el Antiguo<\/strong>, where El Greco painted his first canvases and the place where he would be buried.
\n– The Museum of Santa Cruz<\/strong>, a former 15th-century hospital founded by the Archbishop of Toledo Pedro Gonz\u00e1lez de Mendoza, boasting an impressive collection of paintings by the Cretan painter, as well as an entire museum of archeology, applied arts, and fine arts.
\n– The Church of Santo Tom\u00e9<\/strong>, where we can admire in situ the “Burial of the Count of Orgaz<\/strong>“, El Greco\u00b4s masterpiece; church in which the work has always remained.<\/p>\n
